Denis Galle, 71 years old, lifelong resident of Yonkers, NY passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 16, 2015.
Denis was a graduate of Sacred Heart Grade School and High School. He earned his B.S. Degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma City University. He was a career long Municipal Bond Trader, initially for Thomas McKinnon, Auchincloss and Smith, and later for Lebenthal. At the time of his retirement he was employed by Merrill Lynch.
Denis had many interests and hobbies. Denis's interest in Golf started in grade school, when he caddied at the Hudson River Golf Course. In the years that followed, Denis loved competitive Golf, especially playing in the New York Bond tournaments. He was a model train collector and enthusiast, converting a large room in his home to a scenic display of towns, villages, mountains, lakes, etc. Denis enjoyed gardening and landscaping when he wasn't entertaining family and friends at his country home in Duchess County. He enjoyed listening to all genres of music, but especially Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys, Mamas and Papas, and the Beatles. He enjoyed watching college basketball and football. He was an avid fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. Over the past 30 years, Denis loved and enjoyed raising 2 Schnauzers and his German Shepherd.
Denis was a devoted parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers, and Good Shepherd in Rhinebeck, NY. He was a member of the Sacred Heart High School Alumni Association and served on their Board of Directors. He was also on the committee for the Father Finian Scholarship Dinner Dance. Denis always looked forward to his role in planning high school reunions for his class of 1962, a group of friends that continue to gather four times a year for lunch.
Denis was a very caring man, always available for the need of family, friends, and others, as evidenced by his generosity to several charities.
Denis was predeceased by his parents, Mary D. and Francis J. Galle, his brother-in-law, Stephen Montone, and his half sister, Mary Ann Nagle. Denis is survived by his brother Francis (Harriet) Galle, sisters Regina Montone and Patricia (Keith) Mohammed. He was a beloved uncle of 4 nieces, Nanette (Chris) Leahy, Valerie (Charles) Telfair, June (Scott) Jeckel, Denise Villara and 3 nephews Frank (Liz) Galle, Joseph (Margarita) Villara and Kevin Mohammed. He also leaves 12 great nephews and 2 great nieces.
Arrangements are to be held at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, 168 Park Ave. Yonkers, NY. Viewing hours will be Sunday 12/20/15 and Monday 12/21/15 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place on Tuesday 12/22/15 at 9:30a,m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled Vets of America, Covenant House NYC, Sacred Heart High School Scholarship Fund, or to St. Clare's Friary, for the care of retired Capuchin Friars, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY Attn: Fr.
