Mr. Christopher Ward has been a dedicated member of the Sacred Heart High School faculty for more than a decade. He prides himself on his unique and creative labs, as well as his student-first mindset. Every day Mr. Ward can be heard in the hallways greeting students with a hearty "Hello", and he's always willing to take a few minutes to ask students about their lives and extra-curricular activities.
A passionate scientist and educator, Mr. Ward truly embodies the values of a Sacred Heart High School faculty member: that students are the priority and center of the community. Let's take a look at what his students have been doing during his recent labs:
During the Chemistry "Flame Lab" students learned that light can be a product of chemical reactions, electricity, or mechanical stress. Different substances produce different colors due to the incorporated ions associated with the compound. Students also explored the emission spectrum and the connections and effects observed by scientist Niels Bohr.
Meanwhile, students also learned about internal and external atmospheric pressure in an original lab experiment created by Mr. Ward. SInce its creation, his experiment has been shared with and adapted by hundreds of educators within the Secondary School science community. A low-cost and visually pleasing experiment, this lab is an effective way of demonstrating the seemingly unseen properties of air pressure and temperture on inanimate objects.
Mr. Ward - thank you for sharing your time, experience and innovation with our students!
