In what has quickly become a theme for the Lady Irish this season, a hard-fought first half was only a prelude to Sacred Heart using its size and strength to impose their will on a smaller opponent after halftime. Yesterday, Thursday December 18, the Irish coasted to victory against conference opponent Vincent Ferrer High School, 50-35. Led by leading scorer Senior Sophia Balaj (15 points and 8 rebounds) and Junior Colleen Reilly (13 points and 10 rebounds), the Irish also received valuable contributions from Sophomore Emma Dronzek (9 points) and Junior Kelly Carlo (6 points). Once again, Senior Point Guard Theresa Egasan set the tone by finishing with a team-high 7 assists, while also contributing 3 points. Egasan’s dribbing abilities were on particular display during the fourth quarter, when, in an effort to get back in the game, Ferrer began to use their full-court press. Egasan led the Falcons of Ferrer on a chase, sometimes dribbling through, around, and past double- and triple-teams. This victory moves the Lady Irish’s conference record to 4-0. They head into the Christmas Break with momentum that they will look to maintain in an away game against Fontbonne High School played at Cathedral High School, Manhattan on Saturday, December 19 at 11:00 am.
