March 12, 2020
Dear SHHS Families,
As the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the New York metropolitan area continues to increase, we have made the decision to follow the direction of the Archdiocese of New York. While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Sacred Heart, our main concern is the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and families.
Sacred Heart High School will be closed effective Monday, March 16, 2020, through Friday, March 20, 2020, with the possibility of a lengthier closure. Just as numerous other schools and major social events in the Yonkers area have been canceled or postponed, we are operating out of an abundance of caution in order to limit the potential transmission of COVID-19 to vulnerable members of our population.
On Friday, March 13, 2020, students are to report to school as planned. The Spirit Day celebration will be postponed and classes will meet on a modified schedule so coursework may be explained and distributed. Although the physical building will be closed from March 16th to March 20th, online learning and instruction will continue via Google Classroom or alternate online platforms at the teachers’ discretion. (Dismissal on Friday, March 13th will occur as planned at 11:45 AM.)
In addition, all athletic practices, games, events, clubs, and activities are canceled until further notice.
SHHS continues to closely monitor the spread of COVID-19 and we will keep you informed as to any updates.
Sincerely,
Fr. Robert Abbatiello (President) and Ms. Frances Acosta (Principal)
